Yankton has 8 miles of paved and lighted trails throughout the city, with an additional twenty miles of trails leading to and along the scenic Lake Yankton and Lewis and Clark Lake. A multi-use trail for equestrian riders, hikers, and mountain bikers is located in the Gavins Point section of the Lewis & Clark State Recreation Area.
So when you visit Yankton, whether you are a bicyclist, walker, runner or hiker, you’ll be able to enjoy many fine moments on the city’s trails. |

Taking a trip on a kayak or canoe is the closest way of getting back to nature, enjoying the miles of water and shoreline along Lewis and Clark Lake and the Missouri River. The section of the Missouri River that passes through Yankton has been designated as a “Wild and Scenic Waterway” by the National Park Service and provides beautiful natural history and scenery along with superb wildlife viewing.
