The GAR Hall with its unique history, has been renovated to show its grandiose splendor, and now is home to the Yankton Arts Association and a beautiful art gallery. Each month new exhibits are displayed. Built in 1887 at the close of the Civil War, the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) built the hall as the permanent home of General Phil Kearney.
The GAR Hall was the meeting place for Civil War veterans and their auxiliary. It is one of the few remaining of its kind in the United States. Open 1– 5 pm Monday – Friday, and 1– 4 pm on the weekends. Go to 508 Douglas to get to this art gallery. There is no admission fee.
