The City's park system, a division of the Department of Parks and Recreation, consists of over 170 acres of parkland in ten different locations and along Marne Creek.
Yankton's parks offer a lot of options for everyone’s enjoyment.
Picnic shelters, open spaces, trees, playgrounds, swimming pool, trails, tennis and basketball courts, sand volleyball courts, ball fields, are just some of the facilities providing for a better quality of life.
Fantle Memorial Park is at the center of the city, with a new Frisbee Golf course, walking trails, picnic shelters and children’s playground equipment. The city’s pool is also located at Memorial Park. A display of flags is impressively displayed at the park on holidays including Memorial Day, and the 4th of July, among others.
Each flag memorializes veterans from Yankton. The flag tribute was especially heartfelt this past year as 4 members of the 147th Charlie Company based out of Yankton and stationed in Iraq were killed in the line of duty. Those unfaded flags tell the story of recent losses to Yankton.
In the wintertime you’ll find dozens of children enjoying the sledding hill at Morgen Park. Sertoma Park is where softball leagues and kids baseball teams play their games. Westside Park is directly across from the hospital and features a pond filled with always-hungry ducks, playground equipment and picnic shelters.
Riverside Park is located along the river, the home of the annual Riverboat Days Parade, Relay for Life event, as well as many other happenings throughout the year. During the Christmas season, various lighted displays are in the park. Riverside has picnic shelters, playground equipment and the bike trail follows along the river.
