When you arrive in Yankton, stop at the Convention & Visitors Center to get more detailed information and personalized answers to your questions about things you can do and see while here.

You’ll find brochures and maps in the comfortable lounge area.  Services offered include step-on tour guides (for large groups) and visitor and relocation information packets. The Visitor Center is open 8am – 5pm Monday through Friday, plus weekends between Memorial Day and Labor Day. It is located on east Highway 50; 803 East 4th Street.

There are a lot of things to see and do in Yankton, and here are some places you should look into:

Austin-Whittemore House Museum
Travel just 15-20 minutes east out of Yankton to nearby city Vermillion to see the Austin-Whittemore House Museum, a home that was built atop a bluff along the river after a disastrous flood swept three-fourths of the town away in 1881.
Bede Art Gallery
If you’d like to see the work of talented college students, as well as pieces from professional artists, come to Bede Art Gallery located in the Roncalli Center on the Mount Marty College campus.
Bishop Marty Chapel
If you gaze over the skyline of Yankton, you’ll see a beautiful spire pointing to the heavens. The distinctive Yankton landmark, Bishop Marty Chapel, is considered one of the country's best examples of western Gothic architecture.
Cramer Kenyon Heritage Home
Built in 1882 by the Secretary of Dakota Territory, this stately home is the tallest Queen Anne home in South Dakota.
Dakota Territorial Museum
The Dakota Territorial Museum is a collection of items, painstakingly cared for, that tell the story of Yankton’s history. The museum holds rare memorabilia of early life in the Dakota Territory.
G.A.R. Hall & Art Gallery
The GAR Hall with its unique history, has been renovated to show its grandiose splendor, and now is home to the Yankton Arts Association and a beautiful art gallery.
Gavins Point Dam
Gavins Point Dam on the Missouri River was completed in 1957 as part of the Pick-Sloan Plan, and is one of six main stem dams on the Missouri River. It is the last dam on the Missouri before it joins into the Mississippi.
Historic Downtown District

Lewis & Clark Theatre

Meridian Bridge
The Meridian Bridge, a long-time landmark in Yankton, is the result of hard work and determination of local citizens long before automobiles were crossing the river to get back and forth between Yankton and the communities in Nebraska to its south.
National Fish Hatchery & Aquarium

Pierre Dorian's Grave
Go to the intersection of West 2nd Street and Riverside Drive to pay tribute to the first white settler in the Yankton area. Pierre Dorian lived among the Yankton Sioux at the time that Lewis & Clark passed through in 1804.
Territorial Capitol Replica
Located in Riverside Park, the Dakota Territorial Capitol Replica is a symbol of Yankton serving as the first capitol of Dakota Territory from 1861 until the legislature decided to move the capitol to Bismarck in 1883.
